by preferred on May 16, 2008

Today the PSCW issued the Amended Notice of Investigation to Develop and
Analyze Alternative Electric and Natural Gas Rate Design and Load Management
Options which have the Potential to Reduce Emissions of Greenhouse Gases.
This is an investigation to develop and analyze electric and
natural gas rate designs and load management options in accordance with the
recommendations of the Governor’s Task Force on Global Warming. On February 19,
2008, the Governor’s Task Force on Global Warming issued its Interim Report “A
Wisconsin Strategy for Reducing Global Warming.” The Task Force recommended that
the Commission “investigate and adopt innovative rate designs that provide more
accurate price signals to customers to incent reductions of Greenhouse Gas
emissions associated with their energy consumption.” The Task Force also
recommended the development of load management programs that would “enable
customers to reduce their contributions to utility peak demand and thereby
lessen Greenhouse Gas emissions.”
